I am planning a move from MA to CA this summer and will be shopping for quotes to ship my furniture and belongings. I will be moving a bedroom set (2 dressers, bed, night stand, desk), 2 couches, and the rest of my 'junk.'
What should I use as an 'average' price point for comparison? Right now I am leaning towards the companies that drop off containers which you pack yourself and they pick back up. Are the companies that help you pack considerably more expensive?
For do-it-youself options, you should allow about $2,500 - 3,000; for full-service, about $5,000.
It sounds like you don't have a lot of belongings. If your furniture is not too valuable, you might come out with less stress by sellings in MA and purchasing gently used items in CA.
