How to paint a natural color changing table white?

I have a natural color wooden changing table I bought for my son when he was born three years ago. We are having a girl, want to white. We had to buy a new crib and a white cabinet. We use the changing table for my son, but would like to target. How do I change the color? Do I need to sand, then prime and paint? I do not know how to do these DIY projects. Any information would be helpful.
